NAT question

Ok, so assume this scenario, a box with two NICs runng ipvs with only
NAT rules. One interface goes to the net, the other goes to a private
lan. On the internal side, I need to be able to make a connection that
goes to the external side and is forwarded back in. I have a server,
same as the one that was doing anonymous ports, that I give a hostname.
It resolves the hostname and gives clients the resolved IP. So if I give
it an internal hostname that resolves to an internal IP, clients can't
connect. If I give it an external name that resolves to an external IP,
it's screwed up (forget exactly why). So, I need to be able to make a
connection from my private lan, to a public IP which has ports forwarded
back into the same lan. Forgive me if this all seems like stupid stuff
I'm asking lately, but this server runs in JBoss/Tomcat but was only
tested on windows with a firewall called TinyFirewall running on the
same box. Thanks.
