[patch 00/11] SSH health check and various other changes

Hi,

I have distilled the large wad of patches that Roberto emailed me some
months ago which stemmed fromt he following thread into a form that applies
to the latest version of ldirectord.

With the exception of the SSH check, which at the very least needs more
testing, I'm pretty happy with all these changes and can't see any major
barriers to popping them into the next version.

Please review these changes. And please, if the atribition is
wrong/insufficient please just let me know and I will change it.
