Lars has been running the LVS mailing list since it's
inception. However he hasn't been involved in the LVS
project for a while and would be glad if the list was moved
elsewhere. Neither Horms nor I have lists on our machines
and would rather not learn a mailing list package.

Is anyone interested in running the LVS mailing list? The
ideal candidate:

o already has list(s) running or be prepared to learn the
software enough to debug it if the list ever went down. From
talking to Lars, the current list has operated since its
inception without any intervention on his part (at least
that's what he wants us to think). His only modification is
for people sending from a non-subscribed address to get a
message saying "you aren't subscribed", rather than "your
message awaits moderator approval".

o a machine on the internet

o be contactable if the list goes down

o be prepared to run the mailing list for several years (we
don't care whether you're directly involved in LVS or not)

o I'm happy to be backup admin on the list when you go on
vacation etc (which I do already on Lars' machine, through a
web interface - but I haven't had to do anything for many
years).

o be able to assume ownership without current subscribers
having to resubscribe.

Currently the mailing list is running mailman (you can use
whatever you like).

As for the load you'll carry:

Messages average 6k (I've kept 1028 messages - presumably
these are of representative length - total 6M). In the last
year we've had 2202 messages. We have 1117 subscribers

1117 subscribers * 6k/message * 2202/365 = 40 Mbytes/day

There's no particular rush about this (we've been talking
about moving the list since Aug 2006). If you'd like to do
it, please contact Horms and me off-list

Thanks Joe
