I presume the firewall will be NAT'ing incoming connections 
to $outside_ip:$outside_port to $VIP:port (and the reverse 
on the way out). If this is so, then the LVS director won't 
know that there is a NAT firewall between it and the 
clients, in which case your setup will work.
